I had the privilege of meeting this cat not too long ago, and I must say, he’s a trip. Hailing out of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, (Florida stand up) Hi-Rez is definitely a name you should look out for in the upcoming months. This 18 year-old MC hit the front page of Datpiff to release his long-awaited project, entitled The Window yesterday afternoon. As a follow up to his last mixtape A Walk To Remember, on this one Rez’s flow and lyrical dexterity improve, and his sound becomes more distinctive with the better samples and production.
The album really picks up for me around track 5 “On The Clock”, a well sculpted vent track that’s layered with a sweet saxaphone sample, which leads into my next favorite , “X-Problems” right after. Rez really delivers on this mixtape, showing that he has the bars to kick it with the big guys, and the grind to match. If those two say anything about success, then expect to hear a lot from Rez in the future.
2 Chaaaaaaainz. You already know what it is with this guy, lots of money, lots of women. Maybe that’s why Kanye is thinking about signing him to his label? Anyway, this time he’s back with none other than Drizzy Drake. (Yeah, I didn’t see that one coming either.) Honestly, this one is kind of hit or miss. The beat is aight, but 2 Chainz and Drake both used boring, recycled flows that we’ve all heard before….I’m guessing this one is just a filler to occupy the fans while they figure out this whole deal-signing mess. Let us know what you think about “No Lies” below:
I have never seen a rapper be so aloofly on his grind like $pitta is. I swear in every video he’s laid back, eyes out of focus, smoking a doobie. Somehow he even manages to remember the words, too. Check him out in his new video for “Fast Cars, Faster Women,” which he exemplifies as the Jet motto as well. Simply put, this song is hot.
Next up, we have Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa. Yeah, I don’t know who thought this one up either. I admit, I was skeptical at first, but about 15 seconds into the video I was hooked and couldn’t look away. Also, I am a fan of the solo Adam Levine in this video as opposed to the entire Maroon 5 band.
I’m still not exactly sure why Wiz chose to hop on this track…but as always, he does his thing at the end, and makes the song a little hotter. This video on the other hand, is pretty insane and makes no sense whatsoever, which makes it that much more fun to watch. Check out Maroon 5 x Wiz Khalifa “Payphone” below:
Last, but definitely not least, is Khaled and crew, in the new song “B-Boy.” This one features the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Ace Hood, Mack Maine, and Birdman, and because of the first two, is a classic in my opinion. I am huge fan of both Kendrick and Ace, as they are the future of hip-hop to me right now. Also, Ace’s Mercedes in this video is one of the meanest I’ve seen in a while. Check out all 5 (and a brief Lil’ Wayne cameo) of these guys in video for “B-Boy.”
